Shree Sagarmatha Higher Secondary School Bung
CITCNepal has supported the building of 4 classrooms, gender specific toilets and clean water at Shree Sagarmatha High School in Bung where over 750 students from age 3 upwards are in attendance. Significant funding from an International Rotary Grant and the British Foreign Schools Society provided a springboard to other fundraising by CITC.
Earthquake resistant construction techniques have been implemented, the quality of the building is plain to see and has attracted many complimentary comments from the local community.
The project included the installation of a filtered water system. Once completed, it was the first time the villagers had tasted freshly filtered water from a tap in their village and their excitement was inspiring. The village's common water source runs in the main street from a standpipe and people use this to wash, cook and drink from.
The District Education Official has praised the development, stating that that the CITCNepal supported project is the model for all other NGOs to follow!
CITC is continuing to sponsor 2 teachers at the school and is facilitating their ongoing training and professional development. Future plans involve the building and refurbishment of a further 4 classrooms, including resources and toilet facilities.
