CITC Supported Buildings Stand Strong During Landslide!
During the first few weeks of July 2019, Nepal saw some unprecedented monsoon style rain. Across the country, floods and landslides caused a huge amount of destruction with the Eastern parts of the country being most affected and at least 100 people have died.
The village of Bung where CITC has recently built 6 new and 2 refurbished classrooms was affected and there was a significant landslide on the school grounds at Shree Sagarmatha School. Despite it reaching the CITC supported buildings and thanks to the deep foundations and high quality construction work, all of them are standing strong! This is a testament to their strength and durability, ensured by a dedicated building team who faithfully followed the building codes for earthquake resistant standards.
The local community are thankful that the buildings have not been affected and the children are still able to study in safety. They will work with the local government authorities to make sure the surrounding area is safe.
